How Golf Saved My Life — A Testimony of Recovery

Golf didn't save my life — God did. But He used the game of golf to reach me in a way nothing else could.

When I was at my lowest point, a friend invited me to play a round. I hadn't played in years. I barely wanted to get out of bed, let alone play 18 holes. But something — I now know it was the Holy Spirit — pushed me to say yes.

On that golf course, surrounded by God's creation, walking in the fresh air, I experienced something I hadn't felt in years: peace. Not the artificial peace of substances, but real, genuine, unexplainable peace.

My friend didn't preach at me. He didn't hand me a pamphlet. He just played golf with me and treated me like a human being. Over 18 holes, the walls I'd built came down. I started talking — really talking — for the first time in months.

That's the power of golf as a ministry platform. It creates space for honest conversation in a non-threatening environment. It builds relationships naturally. And it reminds us that second chances — mulligans — are a beautiful thing.

That round of golf was the beginning of my recovery journey. It led me to a mentorship relationship, back to church, and ultimately to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that changed everything.
