What a Mulligan Taught Me About God's Grace
I'll never forget the first time a mulligan changed my life — and I'm not talking about golf.
It was a Saturday morning, the kind where the dew still clings to the fairway and the sun hasn't quite burned through the fog. I was playing with three guys from my church, and I was having the worst round of my life. But it wasn't really about the golf.
My life was falling apart. I was watching someone I loved destroy themselves with addiction, and I felt powerless to help. Every drive felt like a metaphor for my own life — slicing wildly off course, landing in rough I couldn't see a way out of.
On the 7th tee, I hit a shot so bad it went backwards. Literally. My playing partner looked at me, tossed me another ball, and said, 'Take a mulligan, Grant. Everybody gets a do-over.'
In that moment, God whispered something to my heart: 'That's what I offer. Not just on the golf course, but in life. A do-over. A fresh start. Grace you didn't earn.'
